Hi Harry
I purchased HLT a few years ago then updated to Grand Prix on iPhone 4 when I upgraded my iPhone to a 5 it installed Grand Prix with no issue, I have now acquired an ipad 32g and it will only install the Petrolhead version, if I go to add ons to upgrade it wants me to purchase the Grand Prix version,
do I have to purchase it or is it some form of error with iTunes, don't mind paying the money as after all I am running a different type of apple machine, but would prefer not to pay if there is no need

Please repeat the purchase. You will be prompted if you want to buy it, confirm. As long as you use the same iTunes ID as before, the transaction will recognize you have it licensed already and not charge you again.
