Using external videos to overlay

Hi,

Some users asked whether it is possible to use LapTimer's video overlaying with a video recorded by an external (not iPhone) camera. It is! Just visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZjshKZH ... playnext=1 [THIS VIDEO HAS BEEN REMOVED IN THE MEANWHILE] to get both an example and a step by step description. This example was recorded with a GoPro camera. Overlaying has been done with a LapTimer v13 beta.

Greetings Harry,

First and foremost, thank you for producing and exceptional ap for the iPhone that was long overdue.

Secondly, I'm looking to record laps using a Micro 4/3s camera (olympus e-p1) and would like to sync the overlay with the video I will be taking with the olympus. When I click on the link provided I only see track video of an IS-F and am curious where the step-by-step description is?

Thank You for your time!

You are right, this is an example not the step by step. Please check the last section on this page: http://www.gps-laptimer.de/Video.html

Hi Harry,

I'm using the Laptimer Pro and I have imported individual laps from my video file into "Photos." On my 1st Gen iPod Touch the Lap List Detail does not give me a video overlay option.

Is there a setting I am missing perhaps?

Thanks,
John

Hi,

Bad news for you... :(
As the iPod touch does not receive iOS4.x support by Apple, it is missing the APIs used for video processing.
Sorry, but I cannot help in this situation.

Hy Harry,

Is there any plan to support video's longer than one lap? I know that the Iphone records every other lap due to limitations of the phone. However, could the overlay be applied to multiple laps recorded on another device (e.g. gopro)?

Thanks

There are quite some plans on additional video functionality - including recording of every lap instead of every other. For multi lap videos I suggest to use any video editing software to join vids from LapTimer. I always try to find limits to not make LapTimer too complex (it is already). For multi lap arrangements, and very sophisticated overlays, there is desktop software around that is probably more appropriate?

Hi,

Yes, the first link does not work anymore - it has been provided by a user. The step by step description how to overlay a GoPro Video is included on this page: http://www.gps-laptimer.de/Video.html [scroll to bottom].

Here is another one provided by a user: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdR1Z_qm ... tu.be&hd=1
