Hello,

If I have external GPS accessory, do I still need to use a mount for the phone, of can I keep it in my pocket?

To get valid acceleration data, you need to position the phone in one of the orientation shown in illustration #4 of Quick Reference. it will work in other orientations too, but lateral and longitudinal acceleration will be crap. Furthermore, the phone needs to be on and LapTimer in foreground, so putting it in a pocket will not work. Using an external GPS, you are not restricted to the windscreen position however.
