Hi there,

i want to use Laptimer on my Lotus Elise on trackdays, but it seems to be hard to find the right mount.
Basically i like the RamMount System but they just offer the X-Grip for the 7Plus...

Can i modify any rigid case to use it as a base for a Iphone 7Plus fitment to a Ram Mount?

Has anyone made something similar yet?

What are proven alternatives?

The 7+ has the same form factor like the 6+ (which is odd from my point of view ).

this is what i thought too, but Ram replied to me:

Thank you for reaching out. Unfortunately, it does not. While the two are virtually the same size, there are a few newer things on the iPhone 7 that do not allow the cases to be interchangeable with the iPhone 6. The iPhone 7 Plus has a different camera and a screen that is made from a different glass. The iPhone 6 Plus cradle will fit the iPhone 7, but it is so tight that it may damage the screen. We suggest using our large X-Grip as a cradle for your device.

So what do the other users do? Which alternatives might work?

O.k., understood. So this seems to be too tight and they choose a defensive approach...
I have used my iPhone7 Plus with the 6 Plus cradle without issues, but this is a decision everyone needs to make on his/her own.
Besides the 6 Plus cradle, I have used the X-Grip with the iPhone 7 Plus frequently too. It is fine too.

I'm using the 6 Plus cradle with my 7 Plus, and there's no issues. Works perfectly. Same as on the 6 Plus. It's not tight or dangerous for the phone integrity.

I use the ram x mount supplemented with a ram mount tether (rubber web grip). In the past I bought a cheap case with GoPro adhesive permanently installed and used the GoPro mounting hardware.
