Mounting Emprum Ultimate or Dual XGPS 150

Post by nashjunk »

With the advent of the more accurate GPS accessories and dropping of Tom Tom support, I think it's time to retire my Tom Tom mount. I am deciding between using an Emprum or an XGPS.

For those with the Emprum, what kind of windshield mount do you use that will accomodate an iPhone 4S and the Emprum device attached? Do you power the device full-time for video usage?

With the XGPS, I assume people just keep their phone tucked away in their pocket or in the console, but the XGPS needs to be mounted. What do you use? Obviously with this solution, video is not an option (but I don't currently video yet, my phone has no space left!)

Thanks for any insight.

The XGPS comes with a very soft rubber case and an extremely large slip mat. I have it situated on my dashboard, and it makes at least 1.2g lateral acceleration without moving :-)

Wow that's impressive, maybe I'll just go that route. Let's see if it can handle an RS on Hoosier slicks :)

If I use the Tom Tom cradle will the app just ignore it for GPS and use the XGPS instead? I'd only be using the Tom Tom for power and for holding the phone in place for the possibility of video.

I have my XGPS150 velcro'd to the dash. Iphone in the glovebox. No video obviously, but it means:
1. I cannot be accused of timing, timing is not allowed by the track day operators as it invalidates their insurance.
2. Sucker mounts are not permitted at most tracks or MSA events. Everything has to be solidly mounted, with an additional cord retainer if it does come loose!
