Apex Pro OBD II

Post by rbpeirce »

I've been using the Kiwi with HLT and it works fine. However, I also use the Apex Pro Track Coach, which in the past did not require an OBD connector. Now, to get the most out of it, it does. I only have one socket and Apex has no idea if their device will work with HLT or not. Dose anybody here know?

Hello,

The APEX pro is integrated into LapTimer since version 23.0, the OBD extension is not (yet).
I have pinged my contact to get some insights into the OBD extension.

I'm not sure what that means. I have V23.0.11 and I set my phone up so the camera views the Apex Pro as well as the road ahead, but I was not aware that LapTimer was actually aware in any way of the Apex Pro's existence. How does that work?

LapTimer connects to the APEX Pro by Bluetooth Low Energy. It is used as an external GPS Sensor. The special functions for coaching are to supported, you can use these in parallel. Check LapTimer ‣ Administration ‣ Sensor List to see if the APEX Pro is connected. Make sure you have no other apps running accessing the unit.

I had NO idea. That's very cool and it seems to connect automatically. That means I was probably using it last year and didn't even know it! However, what Apex Pro capabilities, if any, are integrated into LapTimer and how do I access them?

It simply serves as a good GPS sensor replacing the 1Hz GPS in your smartphone. You can check if LapTimer used it by inspecting your laps. Select one from Lap List and scroll down to Data Recordings and check the GPS Sensor row. In case you see an update rate > 1Hz, you have used an external sensor.

Nope. It used the phone's GPS. However, going forward I know how to check it. Thanks.

ApexPro is running a sale on their OBD II now but I can't use it unless it works with LapTimer so I guess I'll wait.

BTW, I re-checked the V23 announcement and didn't see this mentioned. Did I just miss it or should I have been checking elsewhere.

Thanks. Since I wasn't looking for a GPS device I totally missed that.

LapTimer does answer one question I keep having. How charged is the Apex Pro battery?

The Apex has a USB connector to charge its battery, the OBD extension will be powered from the OBD socket.
