Android compatible OBD II dongle with fastest update rate?

Post by GetBoosted »

I was reading the FAQ (viewtopic.php?f=20&t=2009) but the data looks to be very outdated.

What is the fastest OBD II dongle that works with android and the Grand Prix edition?

Assuming it's the OBDlink MX or LX but I want to confirm before I order.

There any difference with the MX+? I notice its compatible with iOS so im not sure if they switched the BLE which if i understand correctly may not refresh as quickly? I may have misinterpreted.

Also do you know any lower profile dongles than the OBDLink that also have a high rate?

The OBD MX+ is a Bluetooth SPP adapter like the MX or LX. It is not a Bluetooth Low Energy Adapter like the Kiwi, TONWON er al. The difference to the MX is that is it is certified for Apple’s Mfi program and can be used for iOS using BT SPP. I have no experience how fast it is for Android because a LX or MX is the first choice here.

Please see http://www.gps-laptimer.de/compatibility/android for all options. In terms of speed, non CAN car will show 1 or 2 Hz (approximately 7 PIDs/s) independent from the connection technology. For CAN cars, BT LE adapters are limited to 8 to 10 Hz (30 to 40 PIDs/s) due to bandwidth, BT SPP and WiFi can be faster.
