Does Harry's lap timer supports KTM RC390 OBD readers?

Post by skyscout223 »

Hi

I'm experiencing an issue on my RC390 2016 with a Kiwi3 OBD2 reader.
The rev of the engine, the speed and the horse power are not available, but the coolant temperature, gas level are normal.

I wonder if Harry's lap timer supports RC390 2016 or do you have plans to update the support for KTM bikes? I have contacted PLX and they say it really depends on the app which is Lap Timer.

P.S. I have updated Kiwi 3 firmware to latest, tested on 2012 Mini Cooper & 2018 Honda Fit successfully.

RPM is necessary to work with LapTimer. Please keep in mind OBD II is not mandatory for motorbikes. This means manufacturers are free to not implement features usually available, or change behavior compared to the standard.

To check what your KTM delivers (or does not deliver), please follow instructions in “Debug OBD Connections” in the FAQ section.

Btw, the statement from PLX is not qualified. LapTimer has not one car / motorbike specific line of code. The reason is, that OBD II compatible vehicles and adapters handle any specific hardware dependent speciality and provide a functional interface abstracting from hardware to the app side. So if some mandatory data is not delivered, this is typically some incomplete or buggy OBD implementation.

But we can check if you we can use one of LapTimer’s features to work around.

Hi Harry,

Thank you for your explanation.
I have consulted both the seller of the adaptor and PLX.

I finally got the answer:
KTM bikes are using custom PIDs for rev/engine outputs and that's why I don't get the readings.

I've found some data for tweaks and will share with everyone with a KTM bike later.
Thank you so much.

Fine. Once you have insights in the custom PIDs, we an check if we can map them to LapTimer Custom OID support.

OK guys,

I have found this person with his youtube video who knows about the setup info for KTM custom PIDs.
However he is unwilling to make it public.

This is the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzyqfoBkbAM
This is his email: miltonch76@gmail.com

Additional PIDs available for purchase:
Engine RPM
Commanded AFR
Measured AFR
Transmission gear

I haven't tried the configuration yet but I will let you know if it works. Thanks!
