OBDLink MX Wi-Fi vs Bluetooth

Post by Henry_Au »

Hi Harry I was reading this,

https://www.scantool.net/forum/index.php?topic=6033.0

Do you agree the speed of WiFi and BT are the same?

Is the BlueTooth working ok on HLT on iPhone 6+?

Cheers

OBDLink MX Wi-Fi vs Bluetooth

Post by Harry »

The current MX Bluetooth does not work for iPhones. It is not "Made for iPhone" and will not connect. It seems they plan a Mfi version but it is not available so far.

The MX Wifi is quite a bit faster in my benchmarks, but this may be due to Android BT stack limitations too. The Wifi has been tested using an iPhone, and the BT version using Android.

Please check the FAQ section here on the forum for OBD benchmarks I ran.

Please keep in mind that the final speed is mostly dependent on the car's bus speed.

To see the pros and cons for the MX, please check http://www.gps-laptimer.de/compatibility/ios

Hi, I recently upgraded my Android to GP and acquired the OBD2 LX scanner. I have installed and re-installed the LX unit, but it doesn't seem to connect with my Android. I only run Autocross (am still having some minor difficulty understanding some of the reports & logs), and do not see all the information that would seem to be available. I'm sure the info is there but I must be missing a step in the connection process. What are the options? Thanks, BobL

Hello Harry I just bought the ODBLink MX Wi-Fi and also HLT GP but am not able to connect to ODBlink MX. I have tried everything mentioned in the Forums. This is on iPhone 6 Plus ver 10.0.1, Latest HLT GP, Latest Firmware 4.1 for ODBLink MX. The original ODBLink app works fine with the dongle but HLT don't see it.

The issue: ODBLink MX not showing as connected under HLT, WiFi connected is connected, ODBlink app disconnected not running

Here is what I have tried:
1. ODBLink MX not showing as connected
2. Made sure i Have WiFi connected to ODB dongle
3. Made sure ODBLink app is disconnected and not running while HLT BP is running
4. Checked the Car Protocol used in ODBlink app and set HLT protocol in advanced settings to same one and still not connecting
5. Disconnected dongle from car and reconnected not connected
6. Under advanced settings tried setting the ip address of the dongle and the port in advanced settings to see if it communicates
7. Deleted the IP and the port settings and just left the protocol settings
8. Checked 2 different cars and set the protocol accordingly and still not getting any connection under sensor list
9. I have tried changing adaptive timing from Optimized to Enabled and still not working

Here are some screen shots:

I'm out of clues why it can't connect any help would be great.

I got a report by a iOS10 updater on iOS10 launch day ;-) From what I see, it is a network handling incompatibility introduced in iOS10. I will try to provide a fix soon, but will not be able to release a bugfix release (i.e. 20.0.xx) as I'm finalizing 20.1 currently. This means I need to make sure several other changes are stable enough - which takes time. So thanks for your patience. :-)

I noticed that iOS 10.0.2 is out now. Did that fix any problems that weren't fixed with 20.1.1?
