All software packages, Harry's and others, seem to have no issue connecting with the Kiwi. Nothing works beyond that though. No data is read from port.

As you said jiggling/unplugging/replugging may eventually get you a data stream but I think everybody here will agree that is entirely unacceptable.

Just trying to confirm that with the firmware flash (which will likely require all of us to send our Kiwi's back to PLX to get) you get reliable and consistent data out of the Kiwi and into the app every time with no jiggling/resetting etc.
Your problem description (connection - yes, data flow - no) is the pattern that is / needs to be fixed by a firmware update. Sending it to PLX will not be necessary from my point of view - but let's wait what they say.

Well on their website it says the following:
"Firmware can be updated via Bluetooth and employs a nearly invisible design."
Whatever that may mean

I recently sent my unit back on an RMA for these issues so we'll see what, if anything, they do for it.

Ahhh okay thats hopeful I missed that part. Makes sense. I was kinda floored when the device arrived and did not have a micro-usb port or any wired ability. Updating firmware this way makes me kinda leery I hope that idea was fully fleshed out so we dont brick em.

Firmware updates on the Dual XGPS160 are done with the Dual app. I would think that the Kiwi would operate similarly.

Except, as far as I know, PLX doesn't have an app for the Kiwi 3...

Hi Harry,

I'm running Harry's on an iPod touch 4th gen with ios 6.1.6. I purchased a Kiwi 3 and have been unable to connect it to my Harry's. Can you please confirm whether I should be able to connect with my device? Thank you.

The current LapTimer version 19 requires iOS7.1 or later. This means you will use some older LapTimer version. Kiwi 3 support has been added in a late v19 version, so you are out of luck here. Furthermore, the 4th gen iPod touch does not support Bluetooth Low Energy. This means the Kiwi 3 cannot be connected at all.

For the iPod touch, you may consider the BT1 from GoPoint.

Ok, thanks. Guess I have to figure out my new setup. I bought the kiwi 3 because it works with android and ios. I user an android phone and have a dedicated ipod for laptiming. I suppose I could use the android version of Harry's. Is the android version exactly the same as the ios version ? Same capabilities?

Thanks.

There is a number of smaller differences between the Android and the iOS version, but they are mostly the same. A relevant difference is hardware support for overlays, but this will get available for Android with v20 (early Spring, requires Android 5.1 or later).
