OBD 2 Adapter for Ford Cars

Post by Willi87 »

Hi,

I have got a few questions, for which I couldnt find an answer. :?

First:
Is there anyone who has expirience with an OBD2 Adapter for Ford cars?
I have got the Ford Fiesta ST from 2013 (1,6l engine, 182HP, 240Nm, Vmax=223Km/h).

I was looking for an adapter on amazon, but there is a huge variety. I just cant decide.
In an other thread I read that someone tried many different models and manufacturers. But there were a lot of problems.

As Harry recommended, I would not like to buy a "china" product. :)
Maybe next week, I will find some time to drive to my Ford dealer. Perhaps they can help me too.

Second:
Next to this task, I think about buying a GoPro Hero Silver 4. Somewhere I read that the GoPro uses WiFi. That means I have to buy
an OBD Adapter which has Bluethooth? Is that right?

Summarised, my questions are:
Can sb. recommend an OBD II Adapter for Ford (especially FoFi ST Mk7/ Ja8), and does it must have Bluethooth so that I can use
a GoPro parallel?

Thank you for your help! :)

Hi,

Please start with reading www.gps-laptimer.de/compatibility/ios or www.gps-laptimer.de/compatibility/android. These pages show all valid options for OBD (and other accessories) including recommendations. Ford cars come with pretty stable OBD implementation, I see issues rarely here.

On HERO remote controlling: correct, when using its WiFi connection, all other accessories should be BT devices. Full details are available here: viewtopic.php?f=39&t=2322

Thanks for your really fast reply :D ,

of course I read the recommendations for the devices. :)
The OBDlink Mx Bluethooth is offered by amazon for 184€ at this moment. The Kiwi costs about 95€.
Maybe there is a cheaper supplier. Or perhaps there could be a cheaper device where people have made good expirience with.
(Thats an additional reason why I asked)

kind regards
Willi

OBDLink adapters are pretty expensive when buying then in the EU. The OBDLink LX BT sells for US$ 69 on the Amazon US store (you don't need the MX from my point of view). I found it for 119.95 EUR here: http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00H9S7 ... 2U8ZXEX1PI

I checked this adapter, too. But in the product description I read this sentence: "Bei gewünschtem Zugang zu den Ford und GM Netzwerken (Ford MSC and GMLAN), wäre ein Erwerb von OBDLink MX ratsam."

It ist recommended to take the MX version, when driving a Ford car. :(
Or do you know for sure if this adapter will work with my Ford?

btw: Thanks for your active support! :)

LapTimer (and most other OBD apps) doesn't use specific Ford or GM networks, the LX will support the standard set.

I've been using the Automatic adapter with my 2014 Fiesta ST (US Spec) for a bit now. I don't know what the Automatic adapter costs in the EU though...

I also use a GoPro3Black successfully with HLT as the same time.

Edit: You on Android? Then I don't recommend the Automatic adapter
