OBD and VW R32 2008, Mk5

Post by RDPowell »

Has anyone had success with a particular OBD and a Mk. 5 R32? I hope to purchase an OBD well-known to be entirely compatible. Thanks ya'll.

I'd suggest to check the recommended dongles shown on www.gps-laptimer.de (follow Compatibility / iOS or Android) and contact the manufacturer.

Short follow up: The GoPoint BT1 OBDII does NOT fit the OBDII port on a 2008 VW R32 (USA flavor). The VW OBDII housing is a pure rectangle and the BT1 is not. Also, and just as frustrating, even if the BT1 housing shape matched, its length does not allow it to fit the surrounding opening under the dashboard, and the OBDII pins are parallel to the surrounding housing not perpendicular.

I suppose if the second issue was all there was I could use a Dremmel and cut away the plastic underdash area, but the first issue renders this a moot point.

I have looked at other OBDII models and they have the same housing shape.

Short of seeking a refund, I'll have to look for some sort of electronic adapter. Any suggestions ya'll?

Thanks.

You are probably looking in the wrong place? OBD II standardizes not only the protocol to be implemented by *every* car coming to market nowadays, but the housing and pins too. So there is actually no option for VW to built street legal cars without exactly this plug. Try this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uybBxTNors8

I have a Golf 6 GTI and a BT1, so basically the same thing...the OBDII port is at thze exact same place the video shows and the BT1 fits fine.
