OBDLINK MX WiFi not connecting correctly

Postby Yellowjacketboss302 » Fri Jun 12, 2015 6:47 pm

Hi Harry,
I just got an OBDLINK MX WiFi device.
When I connect to Harry's Lap Timer it shows either 1 or 2 hz -- or sometimes nothing. And, even at that slow speed, the connection is unstable. Also I get a system not ready message "The OBD sensor does not receive data at an expected rate".

My PLX device used to connect at 5 or 6 hz (until it died).

Is there anything special I need to do to get a good connection?
Thanks.

I assume there is an issue in the OBD dialog. Please follow instructions in viewtopic.php?f=20&t=1500 to send me a log for analysis. In case you got 5 to 6 for the Kiwi, there should be more than this for the MX.

Hi,

I see two symptoms in the log you sent:

#1 Randomly, the PIDs requested show an extremely slow reply time. While many request are answered with in 20 or 30ms (which would make 8 Hz update rate), some come back with up to half a second reply times (see below for VSS). This is not specific to one PID, but happens randomly for many PIDs.

Code: Select all

00043979620 +   10ms ---------  mode: 1 pid: 0x0C [RPM] (index: 28)
00043979620          Tx: "30 31 30 43 20 31 0D '010C 1\r'" (7)
00043979640 +   20ms Rx: "34 31 30 43 30 41 35 32 0D 0D 3E '410C0A52\r\r>'" (11)
00043979640          ---------  mode: 1 pid: 0x11 [TPS] (index: 29)
00043979640          Tx: "30 31 31 31 20 31 0D '0111 1\r'" (7)
00043979670 +   30ms Rx: "34 31 31 31 32 36 0D 0D 3E '411126\r\r>'" (9)
00043979670          ---------  mode: 1 pid: 0x0D [VSS] (index: 31)
00043979670          Tx: "30 31 30 44 20 31 0D '010D 1\r'" (7)
00043980170 +  500ms Rx: "34 31 30 44 30 30 0D 0D 3E '410D00\r\r>'" (9)

#2 Sometimes there is a big gap between the time LapTimer receives a reply and issues the next one. This actually looks like a system overload not allowing the requests to be sent in time... You iPhone5 should be well capable to not get overloaded by LapTimer, so can you please check what else is going on on your system? Maybe you have some apps installed running in background or a memory shortage or whatever. Please restart the system too to have a clean start situation. It is possible this overload is the reason for #1 too!

Hi Harry. I tried rebooting lap timer, turned off most background app refresh, and changed settings to allow CAN multi requests. Seems to
Connect at 4 or 5 hz now. Still has glitches every few seconds, though. Sent you a new trace by e-mail.
