BMW K1300R - MC, OBDII issue

Post by qemboad »

I´ve managed to get Plx Kiwi to integrate with the OBDII interface on my Motorcycle.
But some values are not showing correctly, and I´m not getting correct response
within Vehicle list, the OBD box with commands is not showing

The Motorcycle has the following VIN Code:ZV77796 (last seven digits in vin nr)
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do?vin=ZV77796

I have constructed an interface cable that is working with the connector on my K1300R
http://space.smugmug.com/photos/1230495316_e3v7T-O.jpg

I get a link on my Plx Kiwi and get 1,4-1,7Hz in OBDII rate in HLT.

But I´m not getting the right response in vehicle list

I´m getting correct readout on the following measurements

But theese values is not working
Image
Image
Image

Especially throttle am I anxious to get working, it is a bit unpredictable as seen below
Might be due to an delay issue, sometimes it locks on 122%
Image
Image
Image

Fuel consumption is not given any readouts, but might be there..

When using FuzzyCar I´m also getting an readout on Air intake temperature

Is there any recommended software that I can use on the iPhone to get a readout of
"raw data" from PLX Kiwi, to find out what possible and not..

As what I understand there is only through OBDII interface that HLT populate OBD
box within Vehicle list

Image

Is that an faulty configuration on my side or what ?
Might be that BMW K1300R has an special type of OBDII data stream, but can I manually
in anyway add the Commands as above screen dump ?

I´ve made an log file that can be found here
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2857209/HLT_LapTimer.log.gz

And LapList Export here
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2857209/HLT_LapExport.rar

Under "Settings" and "Expert settings" I´m not really certain on what delay
value I should use on KiwiWifi OBD, now it´s using 1.6

system specification
iPhone 4, iOS 4.3.5
HLT Pro v.13.4 build 04.17.2011
Plx Kiwi Wifi with latest firmware.

Please help me out, I intend to make an whitepaper on the solution to get
HLT to work with BMW Motorcycles...

see this thread for ex.
http://www.bmwsuperbikes.com/forum/view ... =3&t=11574

Se all screen dumps

Hi,

Great work :-)

In the section
But I´m not getting the right response in vehicle list
- what's the problem? All the data shown is entered by yourself - except the VIN which is copied from the OBD stream. In case the speeds displayed do not match your experience (look a little bit high), either the gear / drive ratios, or the rear wheel format is wrong. Please check this values again.

The values not working
But theese values is not working
are the oil temperature (which is not supported by most cars) PID, and all values derived from the MAF (mass air flow) PID. The later should actually work, will have a look into the log to check... Please do me the favor and snapshot the vehicle details section 'Commands'. It is visible only while the OBD is connected (like in the sample displayed).

Checked the log, I guess it was recorded while the machine was not running? Please record while the engine is on and something reasonable (e. g. RPM) is shown.

On the delay settings: do not change as long as you do not have problem with video synchronization.

The VIN have I manually added within the edit function in Vehicle screen, it´s not coming from the OBD stream.

And the Gear and drive Ratio I have entered directly from this page, I belive there is something wrong with the drive ratio, the bike is fast, but not that fast.. :D

OK, I understand, gonna go down to bike immediately and get a screen dump..

I realized that I have no screen dump when driving, at that time Kph and Gear is showing values..

Hi,

The data sheet shows 1.559 for the drive transmission, you have 2.91. Odd thing is that this will make the speed even higher...
Gear is showing while driving only.

This is how I installed Plx Kiwi on the K1300R.

I´ve bought an adapter from ODBII std to two connectors, one K/L signal and the other 12V power, older VW/Audi interface..

See slideshow on hardware installation..
http://img820.imageshack.us/slideshow/w ... 0294dl.jpg

I´ve installed a power supply lead from the Touratech TPS 15 CAN Bus Output Helper so
that the Plx Kiwi Wifi is not draining the battery..

Image
That´s the small connector showing on the above pictures, be be careful so that you don´t
switch -/+ on the 12V to the PLX Kiwi, I fried one PLX Kiwi unit..

Strange, because I toke the bike for a drive, se the LapList export..

But the log export window didn't appear until I closed the HLT app, and opened it again..

What is the correct procedure to generate the log for You ?

Hi again,

Just checked the code what are the conditions to get the Commands section: in LapTimer v13.4 a OBD needs to be connected AND the vehicle needs to deliver a valid VIN. This was actually done to show OBD Commands supported only for the vehicle it beings to... I changed this in v14.0 to show both in the situation when OBD VIN and vehicle's VIN are the same OR when no VIN is available from OBD. As long as your BMW does not deliver a VIN, it is not possible to get the list of commands supported. I try to get out v14 soon. For an alternative way to see what OBD delivers, see my next post.

The FuzzyCar image shows an empty error code memory, that is a different area.

Log creation is a bit tricky:
  1. While in LapTimer, navigate to Settings -> Expert Settings -> Turn logging on
  2. Send LapTimer to background using the Home button
  3. Wait a few seconds and bring it to foreground again (e.g. by pressing the app's icon)
  4. LapTimer logs now, you see a small recording status in the bottom of e.g. the GPS View
  5. Once you have logged enough, send LapTimer to background again using the Home button
  6. Wait a few seconds and bring it to foreground again (e.g. by pressing the app's icon)
  7. LapTimer creates a note with the log file included
To see what actually happens on the OBD side, filter all rows starting with 'OBDSENSOR'
