Hi,
My understanding is that OBD II is based on lower level protocols - at least looking onto it as a rough model. It depends on the OBD device which lower level protocols are supported (CAN, VPW, PWM, ISO, KWP, after 2008, CAN only). It is always possible to go a level deeper (e.g. access CAN directly). However, this further limits compatibility. LapTimer works on OBD level only, and uses the syntax defined for the ELM327.
