Qstarz BT-818XT Support

I'm unable to pair my recently purchased 818XT to the manufacture's app. My understanding is the best results from this unit are 5 Hz refresh and that can only be set in the manufacture's software. I'm able to pair the unit with HL (and other lap time apps) at both 10hz and 1hz over BT, I'm only having issues connecting with Qstarz's own app. Is there a work around?
