I’m currently using an iPhone SE, and need better resolution on a gokart course. It’s maybe 1/3 to 1/2 mile long. It’s a “disconnected” figure 8 shape. Oval with the sides squished in.

The internal phone gps is pretty terrible. Some laps get doubled up because the location is too far from the start/finish. Will the xgps150 resolve this, or do I need to use the xgps160? I realize the 160 is 10hz, but I’m not sure I need that resolution.

When using the smartphone's GPS, make sure it is not in your pocket. Same for any external GPSes, they need a direct view to the sky.
150 and 160 are pretty much the same in terms of cost / value. The 150 uses GPS only (160: GPS and GLONASS), i.e. has a slightly lower lock stability. For optimized receiving conditions (best: taped to your helmet), accuracy will be the same like for the 160. The second difference is the update rate, which is 4(!) for the 150 and 10 for the 160. 10 Hz is not really needed for most requirements, but nice to have.

I did just have my phone in my pocket... I have a proper mount arriving this weekend, so I'll give it another try later. If that isn't what I'm looking for I'll step up to the xgps150.

Hello, if i would like to measure 0-100kmh acceleration with 1/10s accuracy, how much Hz GPS do i need?

You need high accuracy, not necessarily update rate. While update rate contributes a bit, position accuracy is by far more significant.

From XPGS160 and VBOX i assume the first has the higher accuracy?
Will be there some gps in the near future also with Galileo support?

Is there some android smartphone you could tell its gps has usable accuracy for this 0-100 0.1s measurement?

No, provided you use the VBOX Sport with an external antenna, it is clearly superior to the XGPS. The VBOX is optimized for track use, while all other GPSes are general purpose. But it is pricey.

To my knowledge, there is no external GPS (or better GNSS) supporting Galileo so far. GPS plus GLONASS are supported by the XGPS.

Recent smartphone start using Galileo on top. The problem with smartphone GNSSes is the update rate and the combo chips from mobile, WiFi, BT, GNSS influencing each other. They are optimized for power saving and not for accuracy, or update rates.

An accuracy of 0.1s will be achievable most of the time using internal GNSS nevertheless.

It's a shame XGPS160 nor Garmin Glo have no external antenna connector.

VBOX sport is really expensive just to measure the acceleration of my car
