XGPS150 5 Hz update.
XGPS150 5 Hz update.
As you know through Harry, Dual has a 5Hz update to the XGPS150 in the works, currently being beta tested, for release in the near future.
I have this beta on my XGPS150 and thought I would post my initial findings.
The upgrade comprised of two parts, a Windows USB driver for the chipset and the upgrade itself. Only took a couple of minutes to do.
Once the upgrade is installed, you don't immediately notice any difference. Going to the HLT GPS screen you will see the update rate is no longer 1HZ but around 4.9Hz.
The data files produced are larger due to the increased data, so you will notice a difference if downloading from Dropbox for instance.
Power consumption is increased due to the higher frequency, so battery life will decrease, but at this stage I don't know by how much.
Anyway, what does this update provide?(The tests were done on public roads, so speed limits applied.)
The initial findings are that the logging side has improved tremendously, which should be more useful on cornering and working out lines. Once installed the operation of the updated refresh is transparent. Downside would be the increased power consumption. If you're like me you have the XGPS150 powered anyway, so battery drain is not important.
Regards
Howard

Hello Howard,
Your feedback convinced me and my xgps150 is on the way.
Please could you say me where you get this Beta firmware which activates 5Hz?
Thank you

Harry beat me to it.
Wasn't sure of the release date.
I have been asked not to post the beta test software, so as Harry suggested, Dual is the place to go.

I can't wait for the update to be available. I need this since I'm going to Thunderhill raceway on March 4th.
Keep up the good work Harry!

Re: XGPS150 5 Hz update.
I just tried to get signed up for the beta and they told me they've already got too many beta users:
Here is what we have so far.
1. We are still beta testing the firmware release.
2. We do not have room for additional beta testers in the program at this time.
3. We intend to release the firmware update publicly within 30 days if all continues to go well with the testing.
4. Thanks for your continued patience.
Thanks,
Carlos
Hope they hurry...
