Improving standing start timings

Hi Harry it's not something I have used but more of an idea to improve standing start timing accuracy.
So my understanding is it uses GPS to fire the timing, however I was wondering if it would be better to have the trigger detected then be asked to press a volume button ( to take into account people wearing gloves ) when stood at the start line ready to go.
Then using "G" sensor reading to fire the actual timing rather than gps?
Just a thought anyway.
PS hope this is in the correct section.
