Features planned for LapTimer v16

Post by Harry »

Dear friends of LapTimer,

The list of features that will be available in v16 is nearly finished - and it is huge. I will start beta testing shortly and plan to release v16 this summer. Usually major releases appear in spring and autumn, so this is the "Summer Surprise Release" :-)

Code: Select all

UPDATE VERSION 16.0

- Major update with changes almost everywhere

- User Interface improvements
LapTimer can be operated in landscape now (namely added landscape Timer, GPS, and other views)
Please note: rotation is blocked while driving
Generalized recalibration detection when iPhone is rotated
Tab bar automatically hides if not used, several views use additional space
Allow manual operation for tab bar hiding
Added new Video List view to allow easy video maintenance
Added number of laps by track
	Improved hover and activity views
'Last Max' Acceleration gadget added, 'Lap #' gadget added
	New, fancy, alert views
Alerts auto hide after some time in case they are information only

- Video Improvements
Added a large button to stop video recording
Moved video links to LapTimer's database
Much improved video link handling including 'revert to orignal video'
Full reference handling for videos (last link removed will allow deletion)

- Additional sensor support
Improved sensor connect / disconnect handling
Accelerator update rate raised to 30 Hz (by far more responsive), added expert setting to further tweak it
Made OBD reply recognition more reliable
Support for multiple replies from car's ECUs
Added alternative throttle PID support for OBD
Added gopoint BT1 and gopoint GL1 support
Enhanced Lap Detail view by sensor information

- Export Format Improvements
Reworked VBO export (includes better trigger compatibility, interpolates fixes to 10 Hz)
Enhanced KML export to support lineal acceleration
Unified standard CSV and overlaying software CSV formats, added both metric and imperial columns
Additional export scope: export by session
Trackday and session exports work relative to lap selected
Added video links to .hlptrl export (allows full restore)

- More vehicle and track types
Added bicycle support (on top of cars, karts, motorbikes)
Track set type added, search in Tracks allows selection by track set type

- System improvements
Significant performance improvement of Lap List
Redesigned start-up sequence, better messages on migration / data checks
	Several memory optimization

- Online Racing
After the fact submission of lap times to Hall of Fame

- More Settings
Reworked Settings grouping, moved some Expert Settings to Settings
Added setting to trigger at low speeds

- Others
Startup sound (turn off sounds to get rid of it)
Added a 'Set Reference' button for continuity racing
Dozens of smaller fixes and UI improvments
Please do not ask for availability schedule, it gets available when it is finished - this summer ;-)

Hope you enjoy it!

Enhanced Lap Detail view by sensor information
Does it mean that I will be able to have the details of my water temp (Kiwi Wifi) tracked together with the lap record?

No :-) This simply means that Lap Details give you information which sensor data is available and at what update rate it has been recorded.

Just got the GoPoint OBDii. What a great find! The interface is great, the price can not be beat. Can't wait to use it w/HLTP!

On a related note, sucks that I bought my emprum not too long ago only to find out iPhone 5 is doing away with the 30-pin adapter and going smaller, 19 iirc.

Yes, agreed. Hardware evolution and related compatibility is always an issue. That's the nice thing about software, it can be made compatible in the next release again. On the other hand - what Apple demands from us users on the hardware side - they give back on the software side. Compare iOS development and compatibility to old iPhone with the Android situation. That's way better for Apple users. Probably a good topic for a long (but separate) thread :-)
