LapTimer v23 announcement (iOS and Android)

Post by Harry »

Dear friends of LapTimer,

LapTimer v23 will be released very soon! For iOS it is in Review by Apple currently (Rookie approved already) and the Android version will be submitted later today.

Like for the last 13 years we have the app on the stores, this major LapTimer update is free of charge for existing users. Please keep in mind this model is working as long as existing users support us in convincing new ones to enter the LapTimer community. Updating LapTimer continuously is a big investment.

So if you want to support this model and benefit from free updates in the future, rate the app on the stores, leave a review, and spread the news. Thanks a lot!

Hey Harry, can you give me more info on this new feature?

- Recordings can be joined into one lap

Is this the ability to merge multiple GoPro files into one session and do an overlay? Thanks!

No, this is a maintenance function to join the data of two laps into one lap. This is not related to GoPro chunks.

v23.1 will support these scenarios:

LapTimer iOS ‣ MultiCam iOS
LapTimer Android ‣ MultiCam iOS

The MultiCam Android app will follow and all mixed scenarios will be supported.

Harry - I have a few laps that were "split" by error in v22.x.... What is the procedure for joining two laps in v23 Android? I can't seem to find this function

Thanks!

[updated]

To join a complete session's laps, goto Lap List and select the Session grouping. Select the session you want to join laps from and select Join Laps from the action menu (Android). In a typical scenario, you would run Verify Lap on the joined recording afterwards to re-apply a lap splitting according to updated triggers or detection settings.

To join a lap with the previous lap, select that lap from Lap List, select Fixes and find the join function with the previous in the action menu again.

For iOS, both dialogs will show a join icon in the bottom tool bar (instead of action menu).

Harry - I have run "check data" and I believe it run in background as it takes a while to complete and then I get a prompt to purge all but 3 recovery databases. I assume this is a successful complete? However, I get a new "System Backup" upon completion, even though I ran "Check Data". Is that normal?

I have a large database... 876 laps and 1313203 fixes. Phone is a LG G6 about 1 year old.

I have no issue using the "Track Day" and "Year" views in Lap List, but Session view takes 20 seconds (I timed it). Still it is fairly annoying.

Thanks.

LapTimer creates a system backup before running Check Data. Check Data is doing some quite complex manipulation which may fail itself, so I have decided to create a backup to be safe.

Your phone is about 60% faster than my Nexus 6, so it looks like processing time is not linear with the database size, but beyond. I will check if I can find some efficiency here.
