Dual XGPS150 5Hz support

Post by Harry »

Hello everybody,

This is to inform you on the status of Dual XGPS150 support.
  1. Dual XGPS150 support is included since LapTimer version 14.0
  2. This initial support features direct NMEA access - resulting in extra accuracy, and additional GPS information like the Satellites View
  3. Since this initial release, I work with Dual to enable 5 Hz update rates
  4. LapTimer 14.4.1 enables 5 Hz mode for XGPS devices
However, there is an incompatibility between LapTimer 14.4.1 and XGPS150 devices with firmware 1.0.34 or less. This incompatibility blocks GPS updates by the XGPS, best recognized by "0.0 Hz" update rates. To work around this incompatibility, please disable direct NMEA access in Expert Settings: navigate to Settings - Expert Settings, turn 'Use GPS Accessories' off, close LapTimer using your iPhone's Home button. Finally restart LapTimer (either kill the process using the task bar, or simply restart your iPhone). This workaround allows using the XGPS. It will show up as 'Internal GPS', but it will be the XGPS150.

I have sent a bug fix release 14.4.2 to Apple today. It will be available in approximately 5 working days. This release will check the XGPS firmware version and enable 5 Hz for 1.1.0 and later only. It will be compatible to both firmware versions 1.0.34, and 1.1.0

The release date for XGPS150 firmware version 1.1.0 is not yet finalized. I will post updates here.

Sorry for any inconvenience,

- Harry

I assume that this isn't a problem if I'm running the firmware Beta 1.12 from Duel?

That will work both with 14.4.1 and with the upcoming 14.4.2. The whole 14.4.1 testing has been done with a firmware beta.

Now you tell me !:)
Upgraded to 14.4.1 last night, and took me a couple of hours to get the Xgps working. Wanted to do a few laps around the houses at 1 hz to compare the results witht the 5hz upgrade.

Just fyi....

I updated my XGPS last night. Had a pretty tough time with it.

I first tried to use my home desktop with Windows XP; then my work laptop with XP Pro. I installed the new USB driver and it could find the XGPS but it would not read and write to the unit. It would repeatedly get stuck in a writing loop going from 0 seconds to 1 minute then start over.

Finally got it to work with my daughters' laptop running Windows 7 with no problems.
