LapTimer v19 announcement (iOS and Android)

Postby Harry » Wed May 13, 2015 1:54 pm

Harry's LapTimer proudly presents:

All LapTimer editions v19 are available on AppStore and PlayStore now. Besides a complete rework and tons of enhancments of our existing v18 apps, LapTimer GrandPrix for Android is available for the first time now. While the update of all v18 apps is free for all existing users again, any Rookie and Petrolhead Android edition can be upgraded to GrandPrix using the InApp purchase option in LapTimer ‣ Administration ‣ Add-ons ‣ GrandPrix Upgrade.

You know we enjoy improving this tool again and again. In case you like it as much as we do, please leave a Review on PlayStore or AppStore - this is helping us a lot to keep the "free major update" policy.

Thanks a lot for your continued support!

- Harry

The new quick guide can be found behind the old "Quick Reference" tile - within the app. I will update the video manual within a week and add a new document on the new accelerometer presets and calibration in addition. Till then, user's intuition needs to work :-D

I just purchased HLT GP version for IOS. It looks like a great modern replacement for my broken, obsolete traqmate :)

The Autosport Labs RCP looks like a great unit, but I don't know about the BT to WiFi bridge? Where does one find a portable bridge like that? And would you still be able to control a GoPro if using the bridge?

For the amount of money to buy the recommended OBD and GPS interfaces, the RCP doesn't seem like a bad price considering everything else it can do - at least here in the US, anyway.

Just bought it thanks!
Now fully ready for this summer :)
Quick question though as I haven't tested it yet: My go-pro is a last Gen Hero, the basic model one without wifi. Can I still still transfert the videos to my phone without wifi, just by putting the micro-SD of the gopro into the phone? I'm guessing that yes, but just wanted to make sure.

The RCP situation for iOS is not really solved currently. LapTimer is prepared and open for tinkerers, but the best thing would be to get either a WiFi connector or (long shot) an Mfi certification of their BT solution. In case you are interested, please drop them a note to show potential buyers are waiting!

I did some research on dedicated hardware bridges. I found at least one configurable solution made up from several modules but found it unreasonable expensive (do not have the link available any more).

For my own testings, I realized the bridge using a small POSIX C program running on a MacBook. Every laptop has both WiFi and BT, so this is an option. For in car use, it is too complex / heavy. A good solution would be an old Android phone plus a quick port of this C program. The Android would serve as dedicated bridge and wouldn't require data service etc.

POSIX C program to bridge between a WiFi TCP port and a BT interface (SPP). Ready to run on Macs but can be easily changes to any other operating system by changing access to the serial interface.

Hi Harry,

I just upgraded Petrol Head Edition on my Android to Grand Prix edition, seemed to upgrade OK and payment was fine, but the installed version still reflects the Petrol Head Edition... is this expected or should it have updated to the Grand Prix edition reflected this in the version description ?

Keep up the good work..

Steve

I like the new accelerometer calibration. The internal camera setting worked like a charm. You might have a little too much yaw in the LHT and RHT presets, though. It looked like about 45 degrees. Using a forced calibration on the individual setting solved that problem, but a straight ahead portrait preset like the internal camera straight ahead landscape preset would be nice.

Is the 2gb video limit bypassed now BTW? Since in a few weeks, I'll be driving a 42hp Mini around the ring I might be very very close from the limit :)
