LapTimer v19 Beta Testing announcement (Android)

Post by Harry »

[THE BETA IS CLOSED NOW]

Dear friends of LapTimer,

I'm preparing the first beta release of LapTimer v19 (Android) for testing. Many items are completed already, some items (marked with [tbd]) are incomplete and will evolve during beta testing. Especially the MultiCam / external cam part will require one or two weeks to be launched.

To participate in the beta, this are the requirements:
  • When participating, I want you to provide feedback too. ;-)
  • You need to be an existing LapTimer user - any edition.
  • You need an Android smartphone running OS 4.1 or later.
O.k., so what is new in v19? It is a lot and probably good for at least version 20 :-)

Here is the full list, please focus on these items when testing:

Code: Select all

General
    ‣ Massive update for Rookie and Petrolhead editons (major release)
    ‣ Free update for all existing LapTimer Android users
    ‣ All new GrandPrix Edition available, existing Rookie and Petrolhead editions
can be upgraded from within LapTimer / Add-ons

Redesigned Tiled Navigation

    ‣ Support for user selectable favorite views
    ‣ Navigation structured by Prepare / Race / Analyse pattern replacing options menu
    ‣ Completely new Acceleration View and calibration assistant
    ‣ Completely new Speedo View (serves as a second timer view) [Petrolhead]
    ‣ New top level analytic views available: recent laps and system health status

User Interface Enhancements
    ‣ Completely new Engine View showing tons of engine data (OBD) [GrandPrix]
    ‣ Calculation of number of remaining laps based on tank capacity and consumption
    ‣ New assistant style for Define User, Autocross, New Track, Load Track
    ‣ Reworked coloring scheme for best laps and time made good / lost
    ‣ Redesigned icon set, button style and finer drawings
    ‣ Tons of refinements of user interface to provide an even nicer, simpler,
      and more convenient experience

Video and Overlay Features
    ‣ Added MultiCam support and Picture in Picture overlays [GrandPrix] [tbd]
    ‣ Full support for Sony's line of cams: MultiCam operation [GrandPrix] [tbd]
    ‣ GoPro's line of HERO cams is now officially supported: HERO3/3+/4 [GrandPrix] [tbd]
    ‣ For easy video overlaying, footage from external cams is transferred
automatically between action cam and LapTimer now [GrandPrix] [tbd]
    ‣ Several improvements to video overlays, e.g. time display, enhanced
      configuration options [Petrolhead]

New Accelerometer Support
    ‣ Completely reworked accelerometer calibration
    ‣ Besides individual calibration, LapTimer offers presets for LHD, RHD, video,
      and motorbike use cases
    ‣ For those with a permanent mount, individual calibration can be locked
    ‣ No recalibration when device orientation is changed
    ‣ Support for flipped lineal and lateral acceleration
    ‣ New Sensor list section for inertial measurement units (like Accelerometer)
    ‣ Added display of calibration status to several views

New Sensor Support

allowing to stream in any ELM327 replies without complex (and slow) request
      and reply patterns
    ‣ Several improvements to sensor connection making and data handling
    ‣ Groups of sensors not used can be disabled altogether; as an example,
all WiFi sensors can be disabled - which reduces system load

Enhanced Analytics
    ‣ Touching a lap in Laps View (bar chart), gives you a quick look into lap
details now; a transition to the full Lap Details View is available too
    ‣ Longitudinal and lineal acceleration graphs show lineal and longitudinal
acceleration as a dotted line now allowing trail breaking analysis
    ‣ Cursor functionality in Charts including video frame display [GrandPrix] [tbd]

    ‣ Further improvements to import (e.g. all caps allowed for .VBO etc)
    ‣ Added OBD (rpm and throttle) information to VBO export (and import)

Bugfixes
    ‣ and - needless to say - dozens of smaller bugfixes and improvements
What to do to participate:

I need your email address and any confirmation you are an existing LapTimer user. The later can be done by either using the Contact button available in LapTimer's startup screen (gray button -> Contact), or by forwarding the receipt you have received from Google after purchase.

Once you have submitted this information to Harry@gps-laptimer.de, please give some time until you get an invitation to download the beta.

Looking forward to your feedback!

Hello, new here :)
If I were to buy the Petrolhead edition for Android, would I be able to update it as a Grand-Prix edition through paypal also?
I haven't bought it yet as I'm waiting for the Grand-Prix version to come out, but since I'm going to the ring for a few days in June, I may end up buying the Petrolhead version if it's not available by then. I was just wondering about the upgrade payment policies you have.
Also any hope for the grand prix version to be released before mid-June?

cheers,

Flavien

All Petrolhead users will have the option to upgrade it to GrandPrix once it is available. The upgrade is done by buying an in app purchase item from within LapTimer Petrolhead (the difference in prices plus 1US$ or so). Although I'm a bit behind schedule, GP will get available long before mid-June :-)
