Hi,

Happy to inform all of you that the first Apple certified GPS dongle providing 5 Hz is available :-)
Apple certification (MFI) means you do not need to jailbreak your iPhone / iPad / iPod touch to get this high update rate.

Emprum UltiMate GPS

To use UltiMate GPS, simply plug it in and start LapTimer - no further preparation is required. Please note that access to NMEA is not yet implemented - so you will see no satellites (but 5 Hz update rate in GPS View).

Hi,

Just another update on the UltiMate / LapTimer integration. We have a prototype up and running now. It connects the Emprum UltiMate GPS using NMEA (direct access) and delivers up to 5 Hz update rates without jailbreak! The integration will be available with the next release of LapTimer (either 14.2 or 15.0), and will require a new firmware supplied by Emprum too.

Please do not track us on this, I will post an updates in this forum as soon as everything is available. Till then, the UltiMate GPS / LapTimer combination works pretty well at 5 Hz without NMEA integration.

Nice, but with a BT GPS Receiver you can lay the device where GPS reception is the best.
I still hope Apple will allow to connect a BT GPS Receiver ( without the need to install Roqy BT or BtStackGPS ).
But as you say, no need to jailbreak and 5 hz is really nice for most users.

Hi,

Yes, you need a firmware upgrade to get a working NMEA integration, and yes, it is user upgradeable. But - it works out of the box already (without NMEA integration). I will ask Roger to post when it is availability.
