Technology Demos on upcoming LapTimer v17 feature: MultiCam

Post by Harry »

Hi,

Here are two links to technology demos I've published in youtube. This exiting feature will be part of the LapTimer v17 app portfolio - with edition it goes into not decided yet.

GoPro and Harry's LapTimer Demo
iOS and GoPro MultiCam Feature for Harry's LapTimer v17

Let me know what you think :-)

Hi Harry,

Great stuff... looks awesome !

Just one question. I guess it is not possible to control the GoPro and get data from a Kiwi Wifi at the same time. Is it?

Cheers

Correct, both devices claim their own wifi network (although it would be no deal to allow both to join an existing network)...

So multicam is always done via wifi? Even with other iOS devices? So multiple cameras and external OBD/GPS over Bluetooth is possible?

Ok...just took another look at the demo video. So multicam is wifi for the Gopro an Bluetooth for iOS devices. Maybe you should post some kind of matrix of the possible combination of external devices once v17 is out.

Yes, that is getting a bit complicated. Possible MultiCam configurations are

1 Master (iOS) + 0..N MultiCam (iOS) + 0..1 MultiCam (GoPro)

To make it a little more complicated, to transfer the actual MultiCam recorded video to the Master, you will need Wifi for iOS devices - BT is simply too slow. But at least I have found a way now to fully automate the process for iOS devices now! So to repeat: while recording and controlling iOS MultiCam devices, BT is used, to transfer the videos to the master, Wifi is required.

What I meant is how do the external GPS and OBD devices fit into the possible multicam configurations. For example:

Master + Slave + Gopro + Kiwi + XGPS150

or

Master + Slave + Slave + XGPS150

etc.

Lets try:

1 Master (iOS) + 0..N MultiCam (iOS) + 0..1 MultiCam (GoPro) + 0..1 BT OBD (gopoint) + 0..1 BT GPS

or

1 Master (iOS) + 0..N MultiCam (iOS) + 0..1 Wifi OBD + 0..1 BT GPS

or

1 Master (iOS) + 0..N MultiCam (iOS) + 0..1 Wifi OBD + 0..1 plugged GPS

or

1 Master (iOS) + 0..N MultiCam (iOS) + 0..1 MultiCam (GoPro) + 0..1 plugged OBD (gopoint) + 0..1 BT GPS

or

1 Master (iOS) + 0..N MultiCam (iOS) + 0..1 MultiCam (GoPro) + 0..1 plugged OBD (gopoint) + 0..1 plugged GPS

That should cover all possible combinations?

- Harry

P.S. Left wifi based GPSes out as they are not relevant currently.

[FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY] now I'm not so sure anymore jf this will be helpful or just lead to mre questions.
Bottom line seems to be: only one Wifi device at a time, "unlimited" Bluetooth devices and of course only one plugged device [WINKING FACE]

Let me see if I have this right. Say I want a rear view camera in additon to front. So I will set up the following:
iPhone 5 with HLT Grand Prix edition as front camera and master.
My old 3GS as rear camera. This requires the Multi-cam app only installed or does it need HLT as well? If HLT required is it the GP edition?
