Apple Watch with GPS

It's been a while since I last used HLT with Apple watch.... but now that the Apple Watch 2&3 has GPS built in, I have the following questions:

1) Does the HLT app on watchOS still need to run concurrently with the app on the iPhone?

2) Any plan to make the HLT app on watchOS to run independent to capture just the GPS data?

In some cases I just want to quickly capture GPS data (for speed) only, without the hassle of getting the phone paired with ODB wifi / BT adaptor... etc.

Then use HLT phone app to the load the recorded GPS and speed data onto the selected race track (or export GPS data for other applications).

Possible? For future release?

Thanks.

1) Actually you need to make sure the watch is delivering heart beats at high rates to Health Kit only. The app is not really required and not maintained currently.
2) No, LapTimer is a niche app already, this would be the niche in the niche. ;-)
