Export / Overlay with color background
Export / Overlay with color background
Video files are LARGE. And it can be quite a painful experience to transfer video between multiple cameras and iPhone. Editing and re-syncing video files for multi-cam operation is also very hard to do with HLT on the an iPhone. So the better and more professional way is to do it on a computer running Final Cut Pro or Premier.
Since "Blue Screen" is the best keying trick in video editing, I store a 10 mins "Blue Screen" video on the iPhone. So that I can "Overlay" the lap info on top of this "Blue Screen", and export this video out onto a computer. Then I can use this re-sync key this "Overlaid-Blue-Screen" clip to key on top of the actual from the different cameras from FCP or Premier.
So my feature request is when exporting / Overlay-ing the lap data,
1) to have a option to export / overlay onto a color background
2) in the setting page, an option to choose the color of the background
Let me know if you think this would be useful and I'd happy to provide more info / screenshot required.
Thanks.

Re: Export / Overlay with color background
We had this discussion frequently and it seems to be a valid request. Does this technic work for you including transparency? And in case it does, how do you do it in Final Cut Pro or Premier?

Re: Export / Overlay with color background
i use "Chroma Key" with FCP, which removes anything that's blue (or whichever color selected) and key only the HLT graphic on top of whatever video.
I'll grab some screenshots to show how I do it.

Re: Export / Overlay with color background
I'd be interested in the quality achievable for overlay borders and transparency. Due to antialiasing and alpha channels used for overlays, the frame's "blue" will be changed to have some red and green components too.

Re: Export / Overlay with color background
The quality is good for causal use, not excellent from professional perspective. If you can add the option for export the graphic in 32bit video with alpha channel, that would be perfect.
Attached are the 3 screen shots showing my workflow
1 - HLT graphic overlay on top of a blue video 2 - multi-cam editing on FCP: 1) main video 2) rear view window 3) driver 3 - HLT blue video clip is keyed on top of the multi-cam background using "Chroma Key"

Re: Export / Overlay with color background
And this is an example of the FCP project, the HTL video is alway on the top layer
Re: Export / Overlay with color background
Sorry for the large pics. I wanted to show you the exact quality that I'm getting.
Re: Export / Overlay with color background
That's fine, no problem.
I will check how much effort it is to add something like this to v20. In the past (I tried to add a trailer to videos on iOS) I had problems generating a video from still images, but this may have changed with recent OS updates.

Re: Export / Overlay with color background
Hi Harry, reviving an old thread here. I'd like to use the same overlay workflow outlined here. Any thoughts/updates on incorporating this feature? Thanks!
