OSX or Windows app for overlays

Post by fredemmott » Sat Jan 10, 2015 12:26 am

Some other apps have a workflow I prefer:

- export data log from Harry's (eg CSV over dropbox)
- grab video from gopro onto my mac
- combine the two in another app

I prefer this flow as:

- my iOS device has limited storage
- my computer has much more processing power, so can do this much more quickly (this generally means that I'll export a full session, but if I use Harry's, I'll only bother doing my best lap as it takes so long to process the video)
- The increased power of my mac could allow an instant preview of video/data/audio sync, instead of me having to wait for a whole lap to re-encode to see if I've got the right numbers in settings

I'd love it if there was a Harry's OSX/Windows app to do this, because the overlay quality is so much better than the competitors

Blue-screening solves some of the problems, but still involves creating a video on the phone which is very slow

Currently, there is no MacOSX desktop software around doing this. The options preferred for LapTimer are Dashware and TrackVision - both PC. Time required will not necessarily be shorter (this would require hardware acceleration of video encoding integrated into the software - like iOS has), but at least the space problem is going away. I have a Harry's desktop version planned but feel it will get later this year (instead of Spring).

I would love this feature as well. The Android overlay process is so slow. I would prefer to purchase a HLT Desktop companion suite that made it easy/faster to do overlays and provider a larger screen to do lap analysis. I love the app, Harry!

Thanks!

It'd also be neat not to be limited to the resolution that my iOS supports - 30FPS 4K would be awesome!

Definitely excited about this, so much so I'm planning to purchase a mac mini once it's out. Keep at it!

Given how much a single track day costs when you include brakes etc, I'd probably be happy to spend $150-300 on it depending on the functionality offered.

As well as raw functionality, a major shortcoming in every approach I've tried is getting the various data sources in sync - it's a horrible process in every app including harry's if you didn't use it to trigger the video - which I don't, as I have multiple cameras but 1 iOS device, so use the gopro remote.

Is an OS X App still in plan for later this year? This would really be amazing if so!

Yes, definitively, but it will require more time. I had to re prioritize things for Winter/Spring/Summer.
