Cancel should only delete the whole session if the laps weren't split. But you should be able to determine that by whether you see lap times or not. However, I would rather edit the lap list rather than run the risk of losing data.

The various RaceCapture devices allow custom PID's and can also read the CAN bus directly, which is much faster if you know the correct CAN ID. They are compatible with HLT. I can't enthusiastically recommend them, though. They still need a lot of development, IMO.

I'm pretty sure the problem is high frequency vibration. Your hands filter that out. Image stabilization works for the low frequency of hand movement.
