Yes, it is completely non-obvious.
I just discovered it because the other WiFi-enabled product I use didn't work any more with my phone. And I knew it worked a few months ago. So I ended up searching and answering the notification and it worked again.
Same thing for HLT + GoPro.

Re: Android phone and GoPro Hero4 black => Video not starting
I finally resolved this. Maybe that in the very near future quite a lot of people will run into the same issue, so I will explain in detail what was the issue (summary at the end). My Android phone currently uses Android 6.0.1, i.e. Android Marshmallow. Marshmallow introduced a "feature" w...

Re: Android phone and GoPro Hero4 black => Video not starting
Yes - since I can connect to the cam with the GoPro App I assume that this is correctly set.
GoPro Hero4 is selected in the app. Just in case I also entered the password into the field below that, even though it says that it only required for the GoPro 3.

Re: Android phone and GoPro Hero4 black => Video not starting
Yes, I even tried several times on/off of WiFi and GoPro. Typical procedure is: Turn GoPro on, long press button at the side so WiFi is working, connect to WiFi from Android phone (i.e. not open the GoPro app first, it's also not in the background), directly switch to the Laptimer app and start reco...

Checked again
Hey Harry, so, I double checked your advices: once the cam is active, you will see it solid with green and blue bubbles blinking (incoming and outgoing messages). - that doesn't happen for me to be honest. You can test a working communication by a) watching the green and blue bubbles as written a po...

Re: Android phone and GoPro Hero4 black => Video not starting
So I double checked: 1. You are right, it's GrandPrix, not Petrolhead. I started from Petrolhead but changed to GrandPrix to have the nice Auto-Start-Stop feature and easier overlaying :) 2. I closed the GoPro App in the Background, seems to make no difference 3. Between starting a recording and tur...

Android phone and GoPro Hero4 black => Video not starting
Hey all, currently I am trying to connect my Hero4 black to my Android phone. I bought the petrolhead edition of HLT, my Android version is 6.0.1. I have connected the Hero4 black to my phone using the GoPro app, which works fine (i.e. I can make settings etc.). Then I have closed the GoPro app and ...
