Harry, This is true, however finding one that clamps on the phone and also clears the cameras field of view is a bit awkward for some phones when there is a power button on one side, volume controls on the other and now Samsung's Bixby side button. Turn off side buttons
Is there a way while in the app to turn off what the side buttons do? Phone manufacturers have put the volume and power buttons right where phone holders would like to clamp down.

Was #2 addressed? I have version 19 and don't see an option to do the whole session. Would that just be adding all the time before and after a session when the overlay options are presented?
